2010 Monster Energy® AMA Supercross, an FIM World Championship, Schedule Announced

AURORA, Ill. (June 29, 2009) - Feld Motor Sports announced today the 2010 Monster Energy® AMA Supercross, an FIM World Championship, schedule that begins January 9 at Angel Stadium in Anaheim, Calif., and concludes May 8 at Las Vegas' Sam Boyd Stadium. Since its beginning in 1974, Monster Energy® Supercross has played in some of the world's largest markets and most prestigious venues, and the 2010, 17-stop season adds to the sport's rich heritage.

"The 2009 Monster Energy® AMA Supercross, an FIM World Championship, was arguably the best season of all time, combining parity on the track and drama off the track, and we expect 2010 to build off of that excitement," said Charlie Mancuso, president, Feld Motor Sports. "The championship will continue its rich history at many of the legendary stadiums that have made Monster Energy® Supercross so strong, in addition to the new tour stop at the new state-of-the-art Cowboys Stadium."

The newest addition to the tour will be the inaugural stop at the new Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas, which is a short drive from the old Texas Stadium. Monster Energy® Supercross held its first race at Texas Stadium in March 1, 1975 with subsequent races through 1977. From 1983-2008, Texas Stadium was one of the marquee stops on the Monster Energy® Supercross schedule. With the establishment of the new Cowboys Stadium, a new area of tradition will be built off of the historic 30 races held in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

President and CEO Rob Dingman of the AMA added: "AMA Supercross is the premier competition of its kind on the planet. The AMA is pleased to once again be working with the FIM and Feld Motor Sports for the 2010 season to provide the world's stage where the best-of-the-best will battle for championship honors. Since the beginning, AMA Supercross has grown in stature and significance. Today, the consolidated championship attracts the top riders from all over the globe. It's going to be another incredible season of competition."

"Monster Energy® AMA Supercross, an FIM World Championship, can bow on a glorious past which results in the rich history it presently has," said Wolfgang Srb, President of the FIM Motocross Commission. "We are proud to count Monster Energy® Supercross amongst the 49 FIM World Championships. The 2009 season was most entertaining and kept the fans thrilled until the end. The FIM considers 2010 as a transition year and is confident that Feld Motor Sports will export Monster Energy® Supercross to new international horizons as of 2011. The fans that are supporting Monster Energy® AMA Supercross, an FIM World Championship worldwide deserve it."

After a successful 2009 return to Salt Lake City, Monster Energy® Supercross will bring the action back to Rice-Eccles Stadium May 1. With the loyal support and commitment from the Utah Sports Commission, Monster Energy® Supercross will make its sixth stop at Rice-Eccles Stadium.

"After looking at the 2010 AMA Supercross schedule, it's exciting to see where we will be competing at next year," said 2009 Monster Energy® Supercross champion James Stewart. "Most of the events will be similar to last year, but this year we're going to go to the new Cowboys Stadium, and it's the newest and biggest stadium in the United States. It's going to be fun to compete in the billion dollar Cowboys Stadium. Also, I look forward to returning to the venues that I created winning memories at during the 2009 season."

Cam Sinclair Countdown to X GAMES 15

The third person in history to land the double backflip and the first person to land it in a freestyle competition, Australia’s Cameron Sinclair, 25, has the double backflip on lockdown. Once deemed the most difficult trick in freestyle motocross, Sinclair lobs the trick up in the air and rides it out so seamlessly that he makes it look like a walk in the park.

A former demo rider with little competition experience, Sinclair grew up racing until he was 19. In 2002, he started “mucking around” doing freestyle with best mate and X Games competitor Blake “Bilko” Williams. In December 2008, at an event in San Sebastian, Spain, Sinclair became the third person to land the double backflip to dirt. He went on to land the trick another 19 times (to protective thin mats) on the Crusty Tour in Australia and New Zealand from February-June 2009. On June 27, at 12:30 a.m., Sinclair landed the trick in qualifying at the Red Bull X-Fighters event in Fort Worth, Texas, becoming the first athlete to land the trick during a freestyle run. He landed it two more times in the final before finishing third at the event, a career best.

So how will Sinclair stack up in his first trip to XG? He is slated to compete in Best Trick in which he, along with Scott Murray (the second person to land the double backflip), will be bringing the double. Travis Pastrana was the first person to land the trick; he won gold for it in the Best Trick competition in 2006, but the stunt hasn’t been landed successfully at XG since. (Murray did stick it for the gold helmet at the Moto X World Championships in April 2008, but he crashed attempting it at both XG ‘07 and ‘08.)

Sinclair is the first rider to land the double backflip in a freestyle contest run.

While the difficulty of the double backflip cannot be underrated, it is unlikely that the trick will earn gold without a variation added to it. Innovation is awarded above all else in Best Trick, and with newer tricks such as the frontflip (never landed in a comp) or a new body varial lurking on the horizon, the double backflip could be trumped. Sinclair knows this, and he is likely to up the ante of the trick when we see him in Los Angeles.

Sinclair is also on the Freestyle roster as an alternate. If he gets into the field, the double could add the extra “wow” factor needed for the rookie to earn a medal. While Freestyle rewards the best overall rider, a trick like the double backflip will no doubt help to distinguish Sinclair from a talented field of riders. Watch out for this Metal Mulisha, Rockstar, rider.

Boost Mobile Comp May 15th 2009

What a great night of FMX competition in Victorville, Ca for the Boost Mobile aerial assault tour. To the crowds surprise along with the event promoter’s, FMX riders and of coarse the fans. The Godfather of FMX, Mike Metzger showed up for a fun spirited night of competition. With some of the other greats of the sport on hand including Jeff “OX” Kargola, Nixey Danielsen, Derek Burlew, John & Robert Distler, Matt Buyten, James Carter, Scotty Stephens and Julian D’Usseau. It was sure to be one night of awesome competition, and would be an early gauge of the legends form, as he makes his way back to the top of the sport after a massive back injury he sustained two years ago.
Sure the crowd was pumped to see Metz back on the bike, but would he be able to compete against such a talented group of riders? The answer was an easy YES to those who have been following “The Godfathers” journey back to recovery, but to those who have not yet seen, they would just have to SEE to believe, which they did! Here is just a sample of what they saw. Check back daily to see when “The Godfather” of FMX will be coming to a town near you!
Peace,
Will "Sharpie" Nielsen
